Easy Air Fryer Smoking Fix

A quick and simple guide to stop your air fryer from smoking by cleaning and maintaining it properly using basic household items.

Ingredients

  • Warm Water
  • Mild Dish Soap
  • Baking Soda
  • White Vinegar
  • Microfiber Cloth or Soft Sponge
  • Paper Towels
  • Optional: Cooking Spray with High Smoke Point (e.g., avocado or grapeseed oil)

Instructions

  1. Unplug and let the air fryer cool completely (about 15-20 minutes).
  2. Remove the basket and tray from the air fryer.
  3. Inspect the basket, tray, and bottom of the air fryer for grease buildup, crumbs, or burnt bits.
  4. Soak the basket and tray in warm soapy water for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Scrub all surfaces gently with a soft brush or sponge, using baking soda on stubborn spots.
  6. Wipe the interior of the air fryer with a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water, avoiding electrical parts.
  7. Dry all parts thoroughly with paper towels or a dry cloth.
  8. Lightly oil the basket using a brush or wipe with a high smoke point oil instead of aerosol sprays.
  9. Reassemble the air fryer and run it empty at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes to burn off odors and moisture.
  10. Monitor cooking for excess oil pooling or dripping; use parchment paper or reusable liners if needed.

Notes

Avoid aerosol cooking sprays directly on the basket to prevent residue buildup. Use high smoke point oils like avocado or grapeseed oil applied with a brush or wipe. Regular cleaning after each use prevents smoke buildup. Avoid overcrowding the basket to ensure proper airflow and reduce smoking.
